The Union Cup 2017 is pleased to announce the seedings for the tournament, the finalised tournament structure and a change in the draw process to what has been previously announced.
Teams have been seeded into Cup, Plate and Bowl competitions primarily to ensure the safety of players particularly in the lower competitions. This has been done in close collaboration with senior representatives from the international gay and inclusive rugby community and the following criteria was taken into account: player safety, results from the previous Union Cup, results in recent inclusive rugby tournaments, information received on the makeup of the participating team travelling to Madrid, whether a team plays in a league or not and the age of a club.
If teams have any safety concerns about the competition that they have been seeded into they are invited to contact the Union Cup 2017 directly via their team rep.

The finalised tournament structure has been formulated in this way to ensure the safety of players whilst giving the maximum number of teams the opportunity to compete in the top level, accommodate the 30 participating teams and to ensure all teams are guaranteed 4 matches and the opportunity to reach a semi or final.
